Phyllis and the Aliens (Renatta and Rosalie Pettibone) are all kittens adopted from the Humane Society of Pierce County via the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee. Phyllis was born on October 27, 2007, while the Aliens were born on May 16, 2008.

By popular request... A BIGGER BOAT!

Per the request of the very witty Anne Boleyn, VOILA! A bigger boat!

The girls just can't seem to keep from piling up!

I'm not sure it's actually bigger than the mushroom, but heck, she's got high sides to keep all the limbs safely inside!

Posers...

I cannot believe how much these ladies love to be photographed. I'm pretty sure Phyllis must be working on her cinematography degree or something. Man, this girl can strike a pose!!

Of course I have to give Matt credit, since he's home all day he carries the camera everywhere with him because he KNOWS what cute situations these gals get themselves into.

"Hold still Rosalie! He's almost ready to take the picture. QUIT moving or I'll have to squeeze your head!!"

It took a bit of convincing to get Rosalie into such a position.

"Come here! I'm not gonna hurt you!"

"Al...most... there..."

"Now, as the humans say, 'SIT PRETTY'!!"

"FINALLY! I'm exhausted! You're one tough kitten to wrangle Ms. Dingo!!"

Don't Rock the Boat!

Now, earlier this evening I thought for sure it was WAY too crowded on the "mushroom" (that's what we call Phyllis's bed) with only Phyllis and Renatta. Then Rosalie decided she wanted in on the family bathing action too!

Awwww! Ain't they just the sweetest little family?

Who's a Butterbean showoff?

The most common site in our household...

I swear that Rosalie eats her weight in Science Diet every day. Ok, perhaps I exagerate, but with such little bowls it sure seems that way!! Little miss Bandit (aka Renatta) is very delicate in EVERY way, such a lady! But not sister Dingo! Nope, some might think that Rosalie is a boy kitty cuz she eats so much. This just MIGHT be what prompted Matt's most recent loving nickname - Gobble Guts. :)

Newspaper love...

So, this photo shows them innocently toe cuddling with the newspaper. I'm quite surprised we could catch Rosalie sleeping near newspaper. Especially since we've discovered that newspaper is one of her favorite toys!

How did we discover this? Well last Sunday, Rosalie jumped up in Matt's lap curious about what he was doing. Then, since usually anytime she's within arms reach Matt's hands are all over here, he kept reading and wasn't paying much attention to her. Well, Rosalie decided to take matters into her own paws. She laid down on her back, head in his lap, feet down by his knees and kept batting at the bottom of the newspaper as he was reading. Matt paid no attention. A few moments later Matt thought, "Gee, Dingo was just right here, I wonder where she is?" Well, she got tired, apparently, of trying to get his attention and fell asleep in his lap, paws still stuck straight up in the air! Snoring away! Silly girl.

Phyllis Experiences a Little R&R (Rosalie & Renatta)

I'm pretty sure we're in the clear now with the girls. Even more fun for ALL of us is that we were able to capture it all on video!

This is the first time they've all gotten together like this. I was so grateful they kept it up while I ran to grab the camera!! ENJOY!

(AREN'T THEY GETTING BIG???)

Little Brother Virgil Update...

Virgil's mom (a good friend of ours) reports that Virgil is adapting very well to his new home. And though big brother Leo isn't quite warm and cuddly yet, Virgil (as we all know) is quite irrististable and we're sure it won't be long now. Virgil is quite insistent and persistent on playing with Leo... or at least Leo's tail!

Enjoy! Here are a couple photos mom (Evelyn) sent to me.

"Common Leo! Gimme that tail!"

"Awwww! Don't tease me! Stop moving! Just hand it over and no one gets hurt!"

"Don't worry. I'm keen to your ways. I'll just get it myself. Where is it?"

(Vigil and Leo do not live with us. They live with Evelyn who is a good friend of ours. Just wanted to share the update.)

The One They Call "Dingo"

So, I've received a few comments from folks varying from simply confusion, to amusement, to borderline unhappiness. Why? For the natural nickname we've given our wild animal Rosalie, little miss Dingo. Well, I figure it's probably time to reach out and give some examples of her "Dingoness".

First and foremost, the name stuck accidentally. I think "Hyena" is likely what both Matt and I were thinking when we said, "Hey! She's like a wild animal that makes funny noises and she certainly looks like a Dingo!". Well, the other day I did a little research on Google Image Search and.... She looks nothing like a Dingo. She looks like a Hyena and makes the strange noises (which we find absolutely adorable!!) like a hyena. For the first couple days after discovering this minor discrepancy, I didn't have the heart to tell Matt that we'd made a naming mistake. But then I thought, what does it hurt? We already have "the Dingo Song" (modeled after the very popular childhood "Bingo" dog song, you know, "And Bingo was his namO!! B-I-N-G-O....), she seems to like the name and.... Well, so we misplaced our understanding of which wild dog she looks and acts like! So what! :)

She's our little Dingo! Don't get me wrong we still call her Rosalie... when she's acting civilized! Fortunately she fits perfectly into our household by rarely letting that civilized side out! HAHA!!

Besides I think Dingos have better PR these days. Seems like the movie statement, "The Dingos ate my baby!!!" has long passed as a concern. On the other hand the PR agent for the hyena still has a lot of work to do!!

We love our Dingo and hope you do too!

Pieces of the Dingo (aka Rosalie)

What IS that?

An Itty Bitty Rear paw a la Rosalie/Dingo Pettibone!!

Is that a Teddy Bear Paw? Nope! Little Front Right of a Dingo!!

A very strange angle! Ever seen a Dingo ear?

Battle for the Bowl

Curiosity killed the....

Well, maybe not, but it sure was a BIG surprise to Matt when little miss Bandit (aka Renatta) decided she wants part of the Bunches of Oats!

"BOY! That UFC takes a lot out of a girl!"

"Come on, Rosalie, lets snuggle."

"Awwww... now that's comfy!"

Relaxing and battling...

Well, I think we've turned a great corner!! All three kitties roam freely now with minimal supervision. To no one's surprise, Phyllis still rules the roost. But the Aliens aren't afraid of the big bad wolf! HA!

Phyllis had been jealous for a few days now at how the little Aliens loved to wrestle. Phyllis has been a wrestler at heart since birth, but little to no practice... until now! These gals should be giving the Ultimate Fighting Championship a run for their money.

"In this corner in the calico VERY long hair, weighing in at 7 pounds 3 ounces, is Phyllis 'Poopy Tail'. Today's challenger, in the other corner in the Siamese short hair, weighing in at a mere 2 pounds 12 ounces, is Renatta "The Bandit" Pettibone!!!!"

"Now, Battle Royale, UFC light-weight MAIN EVENT! The Bandit vs. The Dingo!!!"

Just to clarify, all kitties are supervised during their play fights (which never include claws) and they get broken up immediately if anyone so much as squeaks. The Aliens tend to be harder on each other than Phyllis is on them.

The Aliens Arrive!

The BEST day in the past six months! Seems like we've been waiting for weeks for the babies to come home, but now they are here.

So, why do we refer to them as Aliens? Well, I'm pretty sure that was Phyllis's idea. We haven't yet been able to convince her that they are natural creatures from our very own world. I'm hoping her opinion will change to think of them as "OUT OF THIS WORLD" instead of "FROM another world"!!

So, here are the photos of the Aliens courtesy IBKC:

Miss Alien Rosalie Pettibone

And then there's Miss Alien Renatta Pettibone

Some photos missing from Phyllis's Online history...

Just thought I'd share some photos of Phyllis as she's grown over the past 6 months.

"Whatcha doin on the puter daddy? Whatcha lookin at? Anything cute? Cuddly? Adorable? Irrisistable?"

"Princess on a cloud"

"Awww shucks! I thought you wouldn't find me hiding in the sock bin! I thought this was PURRfect camouflage!!"

"Just let me know when you need to shave. I'll just move. Until then, I nap."

"Ahhhh... nap time. All my limbs in THE most comfortable positions! What? This doesn't look comfortable to you?"

"BATH TIME! On one hot summer's day, I really enjoyed a little dribble of water, then another dribble, then another, and another. Next thing ya know, I'M SOAKED!"

Phyllis's Story...

Matt and I adopted Phyllis on January 11, 2008 from the Itty Bitty Kitty Committee after reading (obsessively at times) their amazing and creative blog about the kittens they raise for the Humane Society of Pierce County.

Here's Phyllis's original set of blog entries from IBKC.

And her winning profile:
Name: Phyllis
Nickname: Philly, Philly Cheesesteak
Describe yourself in 20 words or less: Poofy, poofy, poofy. With a Raggedy Ann doll nose. I’ve been told I should be wearing a tiara.
What are your hobbies?
I think I’m a big kitty and like to hang out with my grown up foster siblings. I’m also a skilled galloper. You can hear me at about 10:00 every night.
Favorite toy:
Something round and fuzzy that I can prance around with in my mouth. (I’m also an excellent prancer.)
Dislikes:
People who think that beauty is only skin deep. Not!
Dream-home:
Lots of room to show off my “gettin’ around” skills. And a spot of sunshine to nap in.
An interesting fact about me: I purr on contact. Eye contact.
Minor Imperfection:
If you gaze at me for too long, you will find yourself completely overcome with the cuteness. Take the rest of the day off to recover.
Why should you adopt me?
Because you need a little glamour in your life. Besides, should you ever find yourself without one, I double quite nicely as a powder puff. If this kitten is your heart's desire, let me know and I'll connect you with her foster parents.

Her profile wouldn't really change a whole lot, but here is how it would read today:

Name:
Phyllis
Nickname:
Kitty, Bullet, Poopy-tail
Describe yourself in 20 words or less: Poofy, poofy, poofy. With a Raggedy Ann doll nose. I’ve been told I should be wearing a tiara. I'm still waiting for my tiara!
What are your hobbies?
Sleeping, following my daddy Rich around the house, helping papa Matt sweep and clean, chasing any living bug, butterfly, fly, or dust bunny around the house, galloping around the house, simulating the sound of a herd of elephants, drinking from the bathroom sink, showering with daddy Rich (I sit between the two shower curtains, though I do sometimes fall into the tub!)
Favorite toy:
Something round and fuzzy that I can prance around with in my mouth. (I’m also an excellent prancer.) My Laser and my feather on a string
Dislikes:
Sudden noises (particularly the coffee grinder), the Aliens (so far, this may change... hopefully)
Dream-home:
Lots of room to show off my “gettin’ around” skills. And a spot of sunshine to nap in, I have a bed in the sunny westerly window, I love my bin of my dads' socks to sleep in too
An interesting fact about me
: When I get excited I start making a "Wookie" sound and I often communicate any and all happiness with this sound.
Minor Imperfection: If you gaze at me for too long, you will find yourself completely overcome with the cuteness. Take the rest of the day off to recover. I'm a bit of a pest if you must sweep the floor or clean my litter box, I love to chase the broom and help clean the box JUST to make sure it's done right!

Why should you adopt me? Too late! I love my dads!

Here are some of Phyllis's gems from the IBKC:
